HOW TO MAKE A CLASSIC MARGARITA

A good Margarita doesn't need a long ingredient list. It needs proper dilution, fresh acidity and a tequila that still tastes of agave after shaking. The salt rim is optional, but used lightly it sharpens the citrus and balances the drink.
Our tequila choice: Espolòn Blanco. Made from 100% Blue Weber agave, it has enough agave character to remain present alongside fresh lime and orange liqueur.

Méthode

Build the sunrise

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice cubes.
  2. Pour in tequila and orange juice.
  3. Slowly pour grenadine so it settles and creates the sunrise effect.
  4. Garnish with an orange slice and serve.

Preserve the colour layers

Pour the grenadine last and slowly. Because it is denser than the orange and tequila mixture, it settles toward the base and creates the sunrise effect without stirring.

Cocktail guide

The Tequila Sunrise, explained

A practical guide to the drink's story, ingredient balance and signature layered presentation.

Origins

A modern classic with a memorable name

The Tequila Sunrise became internationally recognised in the 1970s, but its appeal has always been simple: familiar citrus, clean agave spirit and a striking colour gradient. The drink is built directly in the serving glass, which makes it approachable for home hosts while still looking celebratory.

Ingredient guide

Choose clean tequila and bright orange

A smooth blanco tequila keeps the drink crisp and lets the orange remain fresh. Use a good-quality orange juice and add grenadine with restraint; it should provide colour and a gentle berry sweetness rather than overpower the agave and citrus.

Technique

Create the sunrise without stirring

Fill a highball glass generously with ice, add tequila and orange juice, then pour the grenadine slowly down the inside edge. Its density pulls it toward the base. Leave the finished drink unstirred so the colour moves naturally from deep red to orange.

Good to know

Questions about the Tequila Sunrise

Why does the Tequila Sunrise form layers?

Grenadine is denser than the tequila and orange juice mixture, so it sinks gradually and creates the red-to-orange gradient.

Which tequila works best?

A clean blanco tequila is the classic choice. Its bright agave character works well with orange without adding heavy oak flavours.

Can I prepare several servings at once?

Yes. Use the serving selector to scale every ingredient, mix the tequila and orange juice in batches, then add grenadine to each glass individually to preserve the sunrise effect.

Rum - garden fresh

Mojito

A Mojito should be crisp, aromatic and refreshing rather than aggressively sweet. White rum gives the drink its backbone while lime, mint and soda make it bright.

Méthode

Make it properly

  1. Press mint gently with lime juice and cane syrup in a tall glass.
  2. Add white rum and crushed ice, then churn from the bottom.
  3. Top with soda and finish with a mint crown.

Fresh, long and bright

Gentle handling makes the biggest difference. Pressing mint too hard releases bitter notes, while a light muddle perfumes the drink. Crushed ice and a final churn distribute the syrup and citrus from the bottom. The calculator plans every bottle and keeps fresh mint optional.

Méthode

Faites-le correctement

  2. Add ice and shake again until the tin is very cold.
  3. Strain over fresh ice and finish with bitters and a lemon twist.

Silky, warm and bright

A two-stage shake gives the best texture: first without ice to aerate the optional foamer, then with ice to chill and dilute. The result should be silky rather than heavy. Drinkero plans whisky, citrus and syrup by guest count while keeping the foamer removable.
