WHAT MAKES A GOOD WOO WOO?

A good Woo Woo should be juicy and fruit-forward while remaining refreshing rather than overly sweet.

The peach liqueur provides the distinctive ripe-peach flavour, while cranberry juice adds berry character and enough tartness to balance the sweetness.

Vodka gives the drink structure without competing with the fruit. Plenty of ice keeps the cocktail properly chilled, while a fresh lime wedge adds a final touch of citrus aroma and acidity.

WOO WOO: RECIPE, INGREDIENTS & TIPS

A practical guide to making a balanced Woo Woo, from choosing the right peach liqueur and cranberry juice to getting the proportions right for a simple, refreshing vodka highball.

INGREDIENT GUIDE

THE BEST INGREDIENTS FOR A WOO WOO

The Woo Woo contains only three main liquid ingredients, so the balance between vodka, peach and cranberry is especially important.

For the vodka, choose a clean, neutral style that provides structure while allowing the fruit flavours to remain at the centre of the cocktail.

For the peach component, Drinkero recommends Bols Peach Liqueur. Its ripe peach character and gentle sweetness work particularly well with vodka and cranberry juice.

The cranberry juice provides the main volume of the drink, bringing berry flavour, acidity and the characteristic red colour.

Finish with a fresh lime wedge for a brighter citrus aroma and a fresher finish.

Balance

HOW TO BALANCE A WOO WOO

The foundation of our Woo Woo is 40 ml vodka, 20 ml peach liqueur and 80 ml cranberry juice.

The vodka provides enough strength to keep the drink clearly cocktail-like, while the peach liqueur adds sweetness and its defining fruit character.

The larger proportion of cranberry juice keeps the cocktail refreshing and prevents the peach liqueur from becoming too dominant.

The result should taste juicy and fruity first, with clear peach character, fresh cranberry and a clean vodka backbone.

Origins

THE STORY BEHIND THE WOO WOO

The Woo Woo became popular during the 1980s, alongside a generation of colourful, fruit-forward cocktails built around vodka and flavoured liqueurs.

Its combination of vodka, peach schnapps and cranberry juice reflects the simple, approachable cocktail style that became especially popular in bars and clubs during that period.

The drink is closely related to the Sex on the Beach, sharing vodka, peach liqueur and cranberry juice but leaving out the orange juice.

That simpler construction gives the Woo Woo a slightly sharper, more berry-forward profile while keeping the same easy-drinking peach character.

TECHNIQUE

TECHNIQUE: BUILD DIRECTLY IN THE GLASS

The Woo Woo does not require a shaker.

Fill a highball glass generously with ice, then add the vodka and peach liqueur.

Pour in the cranberry juice and stir gently until the ingredients are evenly mixed and chilled.

There is no need for vigorous stirring. A few turns with a bar spoon are enough.

Finish with the lime garnish and serve immediately.

A clear glass filled with a bright red cocktail and ice, garnished with a lime wedge, set on a dark slate coaster with whole and sliced limes and a metal jigger on a rustic wooden table.
Serving

HOW TO SERVE A WOO WOO

Serve the Woo Woo in a highball glass filled generously with ice.

The drink should be cold, brightly coloured and refreshing, with the peach and cranberry flavours remaining clearly noticeable.

Garnish with a fresh lime wedge. The lime adds citrus aroma and can be squeezed into the drink for a slightly sharper finish.

Serving options:

  • Classic: Highball glass + lime wedge
  • Tall: Collins glass + lime wedge
  • Extra fresh: Squeeze the lime wedge gently over the finished drink
  • Party style: Serve in a smaller glass as a shorter, stronger version

Questions about the Woo Woo

What is a Woo Woo made with?

A Woo Woo combines vodka, peach liqueur and cranberry juice, served over ice with a lime garnish.

What does a Woo Woo taste like?

It is fruity, juicy and lightly sweet, with ripe peach flavour balanced by the fresher, slightly tart character of cranberry juice.

What peach liqueur should I use?

Drinkero recommends Bols Peach Liqueur for its clear peach character and balanced sweetness.

What is the difference between a Woo Woo and Sex on the Beach?

Both contain vodka, peach liqueur and cranberry juice, but a Sex on the Beach also includes orange juice. The Woo Woo is therefore simpler and more cranberry-forward.

Should a Woo Woo be shaken?

It can be shaken, but our recipe is designed to be built directly in the serving glass for quick and easy preparation.

Does a Woo Woo need lime juice?

Fresh lime juice is not essential to the base recipe. We use a fresh lime wedge as the garnish, allowing the drinker to squeeze in a little additional acidity if desired.

Can I make Woo Woos for a group?

Yes. Choose whether you're making 6, 12, 24 or 48 Woo Woos and Drinkero calculates the vodka, peach liqueur, cranberry juice and lime quantities you need.
